【CHALLENGE 06】こそあど・"ko so a do" Pointing out

Check

You can pick any "Challenge" but it will be easier if you start from CHALLENGE 01

Each challenge focuses on a specific topic/situation. Once you learn the base format, the rest is up to your vocabulary.

It will be very useful if you learn the Sound of Hiragana, and Commonly used words.

Check out Survival Japanese "Boot Camp Series" for building vocabulary!

【Challenge 06】covers how to point out: this, it, that, which one? = "ko so a do"

Subjects in conversation, especially "I" and "You", are often omitted. But for everything else, you point out by using these words. If you know the 8 words introduced in this challenge, you will be fine.

  Let's view the challenge video!

A little tip

Remember which one to use by itself, and which one to use with noun. Also which one to use depending on how far it is. Master them using "the apple drawing" in the video:

This⇒ これ ⇒ kore
It ⇒ それ ⇒ sore
That⇒ あれ ⇒ are
Which one? ⇒ どれ?⇒ dore?

This apple ⇒ このりんご ⇒ kono ringo
That apple ⇒ あのりんご ⇒ ano ringo
Which apple? ⇒ どのりんご? ⇒ dono ringo?

Now you can use "positive form", "negative form", "question form" with specific subjects!

Attention!

Keywords that you learn are like skeleton, and your vocabulary is the flesh and blood. In Survival Japanese, building your vocabulary is the top priority. Try to add a few new words every day or week.

Compared to English, Japanese often sounds ok without complete structure. For example:

That movie is interesting ⇒ That movie interesting.
あの えいが おもしろい ⇒ あの えいが、おもしろい。
ano   eiga    wa omosiroi          ano   eiga,       omosiroi.

In above sentences, you seldom omit "is". But in Japanese, most people omit "は・wa", and that sounds even more natural.

Let's listen to some conversation. How much can you pick up?

この ちょこれーと、すごく おいしい!(This chocolate is so good!)
 kono   cyokorēto,         sugoku   oisii!

え?どれ?どのちょこれーと? (what? which one? which chocolate? )
 e?    dore?   dono cyokorēto?

この しゃつ、ちょっとおおきいですね。(This shirt is a bit too big, isn't it?)
 kono  syatu,      cyotto    ookii       desune.

そうですか? ちょうどじゃないですか?(really? isn't it just right?)
  sō desuka?           tyōdo     janai   desuka?

どの みせ に いきたい ですか?(Which store do you want to go?)
dono mise ni     ikitai      desuka?

どの おみせ が、おすすめ ですか?(Which store do you recommend?)
 dono  omise  ga,   osusume   desuka?

どの くつが いちばん かっこいい かな? (Which shoes are the best looking?)
dono kutu ga ichiban       kakkoii     kana?

これ か あれ が いい と おもう よ。(I think this or that are good.)
kore  ka  are   ga   ii     to  omou   yo.
