Check

You can pick any "Challenge" but it will be easier if you start from CHALLENGE 01

Each challenge focuses on a specific topic/situation. Once you learn the base format, the rest is up to your vocabulary.

It will be very useful if you learn the Sound of Hiragana, and Commonly used words.

Check out Survival Japanese "Boot Camp Series" for building vocabulary!

【Challenge 07】quick review for challenges 1-6

Great job! You've completed the first 6 challenges in Survival Japanese 【STEP 1】

You reach a successful level of basic conversation skills once you learn to express about yourself, facts, feelings, needs, and interests in "positive forms". After that, it'll be easier to learn "negative forms", and "question forms".  You get to ask questions and understand the answers as well. Let's keep learning the basic sentence patterns and building vocabulary.

  Let's view the challenge video!

A little tip

Repetition is the key for learning a new language. Pronunciation gets better as you say it aloud more. Test your pronunciation by talking to "Siri" or "Alexa" in Japanese. "Google translate" is another great tool to build your vocabulary. Type in a sentence in your native language, and see what Google Translate will return in Japanese. Listen to the audio, and repeat after. Their accuracy level is getting better and better very fast.

Attention!

Keywords are the important ones that you need to catch in any sentence especially when someone is asking a question:

  • いつ~?・itu? When~?
  • どこ~?・dokode? Where~?
  • だれ~?・dare~? Who~?
  • なに~?・nani~? What~?
  • どうして~?・ dōsite~? Why~?

Let's listen to some casual conversation. How much can you pick up?

きのう あたらしい げーむ  かいました よ。(I bought a new game yesterday.)
  kinō        atarasii     gēmu      kaimasita yo.

ほんとに?どのげーむ?  みたいな。(Really? Which game? I want to see it.)
honto ni?     dono gēmu?      mitai na.

じゃあ  あした  いっしょに  あそびましょう。(Let's play together tomorrow then.)
   jaa        asita        issyo ni          asobimasyo.

うれしい!とっても たのしみ! (great! I'm looking forward to it!)
